A suggested reading sequence for students beginning their study of Jyotish.
A self-study starting point
Start with graha (planet), rashi (sign), bhava (house) and lagna (ascendant). Keep a small glossary and write each definition in your own words.
When reading a passage, identify whether it discusses a planet, sign, house or house lord. These describe different parts of the interpretation; do not treat them as interchangeable.
Study placement, lordship, conjunctions and aspects as connected ideas. Write down the conditions attached to each rule rather than remembering only its conclusion.
Follow one concept through a small set of examples. Note the chart details provided and what is missing. An example illustrates a method; it does not by itself prove a universal rule.
Learn what the author means by Dasha and Gochar before combining them. Keep the birth-chart discussion separate from the timing technique until the relationship is clear.
Review your notes after each chapter. Mark questions, references and competing interpretations so that uncertainty stays visible while your understanding grows.
